This is a 120 minute tape featuring my favorite remixes of my own music. Since this album changes from year to year, I only made 50 copies of this version, knowing that when they sell out, it will be time to make a new version. Usually by that time, at least one new person has submitted a new remix I'm into, which generally changes the running order of the whole album. And I like it like that. The whole idea is to try and approach a musical object more like a musical process. We make objects to convey and create processes, but we should not forget that the object, unlike the process, is frozen in time, and ceases to change. What I love about the idea of remixing is that it takes something that's done, frozen, complete, and changes it, makes it into something else. And this can be done indefinitely if the song is fertile and/or if the remixer creative enough. I'm done with thinking of music as something that's done. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project (since 2005!), and to those remixers who continue to inspire me about what my music can sound like.

  • Very Limited Edition, ever changing Double CD
Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Since this album changes from year to year, I only make 10 or 20 copies at a time, knowing that when they sell out, it will be time to make a new version. Usually by that time, someone else has submitted a new remix, which changes the running order of the whole album. And I like it like that. The whole idea is to try and approach a musical object more like a process. This is what good music does, and it's why I've been so into the idea of remixing. A remix takes something that's done, and changes it, makes it into something else. And this can be done indefinitely if the song is fertile and the remixer creative enough. I'm done with thinking of music as something that's done. Currently, the CD version is made up of two CDs. The first one is rather eclectic, ranging from IDM to hip hop to all sorts of stuff that don't fit into any known genre. The second disc features some of the more ambient, abstract, and epic remixes. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project (since 2005!). The images seen here are some of the old covers this thing has had over the years.

drunk in hives sweaty in the cold in my old clothes I wanted to be comfortable My limbs fell hard on the small of your neck and the wine in your body left you I'm not lifeless, just unsure. Their cigarette remains in the face that I remember seems to leave me chores. It went forward. And if I see a hundred lashes, that reminds me of yours. I'm drunk in hives and I can't quite recognize the untruths, the dirty war wounds. But you begged me onward. Or was it to her? Her long hair made you unfocused and unsure. My limbs fell hard on the small of your neck. And the wine in your body left you so when the dehydration set in, told them all it was an accident. I'm drunk in hives and my hands have their own birthdays. They belong to the mothers until they turn of age. My arms belong to the convent where all the soldiers make their decisions for them. I'm not lifeless, just unsure. I'm drunk in hives. And my name belongs to all the other times I was refused. (Lyrics by Hoja Lopez)

When you find yourself alone don't come to me. The photographs have been taken off my shelf. I've been doing just fine despite the days and nights that can hardly read your line. I've been thinking today that if you want you could come home if you have have nowhere else to stay.

about

One of the unfortunate aspects of recording is that we take music, which is inherently alive and always changing, and we freeze it for eternity. Instead of shifting and adapting as is its nature, it is forced to stay exactly the same until the LP or CD or whatever becomes unplayable. With this online release, I'd like to overcome that restraint by allowing continual updates. Just as a remix is the re-envisioning of a song that was previously thought to be "finished," this album will undergo a revision every time I a new remix (a good one anyway). I'll continue to re-approach the whole album and start moving things around to see if this new addition can find a home there. Sometimes that means deleting a song or two. Sometimes that means coming up with an entirely different order for the tracks. Sometimes there is just no place on the record for that new track, and so I save it until the album changes enough to admit it. Likewise, the CDRs and tapes that carry this music will only be made in small batches so that when they sell out, I can replace them with updated versions. If you buy a record, be sure to check back once and a while and see what updates have been made, which you can download.
