about

I was thinking about the Kollyridians recently. They worshipped the Virgin Mary, as a Goddess, in caves in the mountains of southern Bulgaria, just a few years, really, after Mary had been at all. I was thinking about these people, and about the bread that I have read they used as offerings.

The dynamic between the worshipper, the worshipped, and the offering is erotic and potentially terrific.

Duets are not about the number two, and they are not about a dynamic between two people. Duets are about the dynamic between the performer, the other performer, and the offering. Any combination of two is really about three.

I wrote to a friend: "I study your form from a distance that unites us as it divides us. We are divided by the distance because it is between us but we are united by it because it is something that both of us have. Although to say it is only a way of conceiving reality and not, in fact, reality: you are touching one end of the distance that divides us, and I am touching the other. And the distance is not rigid because, of course, it isn't anything at all. So when I think of the far end of that distance touching you, I am lucky to be able to think about it swelling up the nape of your neck and along your cranium, through your hair, to the crown of your head (you are facing away from me), and also down over your shoulder blades, along your spine" and so on.
